Climbing Mountains

“You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!”
― Dr. SeussOh, the Places You'll Go!

Below are my reflections of my journey of climbing two mountains back in May.

living in Ganghwa Island, I am surrounded by mountains. I  almost feel ashamed to say that while I have been here for a while, I have not climbed a mountain here until today, and what a journey it was.

The journey was so long, first getting on the bus, then climbing the mountain to the Buddhist temple. After that, my friend and I  climbed a steep 200 meters to the  the point that you have the best view of the flowers, then another  500 meters away to the top, where you could see all the island.

We were intrigued to explore the  other paths on the mountain. So we headed out to view  some dolmans, and that's where we started to get lost. The way we took to get down was not a common path that many people took. It was steep and had no rope or directions as to where we were.  I was so proud of myself for not crying because I am so afraid of heights!

Because of our exploring, we ended up getting lost, and entered into another mountain.

If someone told me two years ago that I would be climbing two mountains with tennis shoes and live to tell the story i wouldn't believe them.

Todays adventure made me realize several things:

  • I would TOTALLY survive hunger games!  Maybe I wouldn't be the victor, but it would take a lot to kill me.

  • I need to workout outside more often, that was a total body workout!

  • I need to explore more! My time in Korea is almost over! I have huge goals of seeing other countries, but I  have so much right here in my own neighborhood that i need to see... more mountains, islands, and temples.  This journey today had made me set a goal of seeing  Korea every weekend!
